The newly-formed Antigo Silt Loam and Water Producer-Led Watershed Protection group held a field day at the Kohm and Spychalla Farm in Antigo on June 27. The group observed an 80-acre field containing 14 different treatments. Among the topics were: Understanding soil and phosphorus losses in seed potato rotations; small-scale strip cover cropping for protection of perennial gullies; demonstration of six rye and triticale cover crop establishment methods post potato harvest; two termination methods; and alfalfa green planting.
The Antigo Silt Loam and Water Producer-Led group includes the following farms: Kohm and Spychalla, LLC, Maly Farms, Wild Seed Farms, Guenthner Potato Company, Spring Breeze Dairy, Schroeder Bros. Farms, Kakes Farms, J.W. Mattek & Sons, Sunnydale Farms, Hyland Lakes Spuds and Guenthner Farms.
